I love playoff baseball. Some of the best hours of the last 12 months of my life were spent at Dodger playoff games. I don’t want to jinx anything, but since 2004, I’ve been to 6 Dodgers playoff games and the Dodgers are 5-1 in those games. Someone from the Dodger organization should be buying me tickets. I so badly want the Dodgers to win the world series. It’s been a tough 20+ years for Dodger fans. I hate the Phillies. They currently are my 2nd most hated sports organization in the world along with USC (1st), Manchester United (3rd), Yankees (4th). Thursday. Game 1. 4:30pm PST. Go Dodgers.
While watching Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist today, I was shocked by a scene where Michael Cera’s character’s cell phone rings. It wasn’t the scene’s significance that caught my attention, but rather the ringtone; it was the Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”. I’ve had that song as my ringtone ever since I got my blackberry. It took me a couple hours to choose a ringtone and I eventually chose Boys Don’t Cry because 1) I like the song 2) it has a cool intro that starts immediately and 3) the intro isn’t sharp or sudden which would startle me when my phone rings. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I got my blackberry on July 21, 2008 and Nick and Norah hit theaters on October 3, 2008. So for the record, I want to make it clear that I am by no means a Michael Cera poser, although I enjoy some of his movies.
I joined Netflix with the goal of catching up on movies on the Must See list. This list includes movies that everyone should have seen at some point and whenever someone hears that you haven’t seen a movie on this list, they can’t believe it. Then they usually follow with a question like “Do you live in a bubble?” or something of that nature. The original list was built on my own, and the later additions were taken from asking around. So far I’ve seen 6 movies this month (7 if you count 500 Days of Summer which I saw in theaters and thought was really good. The soundtrack is pretty good.). Got lots more to go.
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
High Fidelity
Juno
Knocked Up
Milk
Pulp Fiction
Also on the topic of entertainment, I saw the Fonz at the Century City mall. I put the Fonz in the same humor class as AC Slater. With that being said, that is a very very good class.
Hanging out today at Sports Authority reminded me of how much I love sporting goods stores. All of those brand new, shrink wrapped pieces of sports equipment at my fingertips is so exciting. It makes me wish I was playing sports as often as I used to. I killed a good 30 minutes in the store and I topped it off by sinking a few putts on their fake putting green. Great afternoon!
I saw Telekinesis at the Echoplex yesterday. That venue is perhaps the weirdest venue I’ve ever been to. The Echoplex is actually the basement of the Echo. I had assumed that since it was in the basement, it’d be smaller than the already cramped Echo, but it’s actually bigger and has a more legitimate stage in addition to 2 bars and several mini booths where I saw a lot of people eating pizza (so I guess this place serves pizza also?). Anyways, there were probably about 75 people at the show to see Telekinesis blow through their set list. They have catchy songs and the album goes down pretty easily in 31 minutes. An added bonus for listening to them on my itunes library is that after the last song on the album finishes, the next song in my library is “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Temptations.
For those of us Level-A internet nerds, we knew that Facebook was making usernames available for claiming starting this evening. I’m proud to say I beat out other Andrew Lai’s in the world to register the username ‘AndrewLai’. Thank you for your applause.
I was really curious about the demand for my name and several other names, the popular and unpopular. Facebook is HUGE worldwide and the number of Level-A nerds grows rapidly daily. This means that usernames would be claimed at a mind blowing pace. Anyways, registration started at 9:01pm PST today, and after I registered my username, I wanted to check some typical internet nerd names to see if they were taken. With that being said, below are a list of typical internet/Asian usernames that had been claimed by 9:05pm (4 minutes after registration began):
Jimmy Fallon has never made me laugh, but at least he understands the importance of Saved By the Bell. He’s currently trying to get all the cast members of the show to come on the show and agree to a reunion. Tonight he had Zack on. And by Zack, I mean Mark Paul Gosselaar AS Zack. Sick.
