Plain and simple: my favorite TV show of all time is Saved By the Bell. I watch it anytime I stumble across it on TBS, or I’ll occasionally pop in the DVDs (thanks Vusan!). I’ve seen every episode numerous times, and, for various reasons, each time I watch an episode, I find it funnier than before. These various reasons range from noticing some horrendous piece of Slater’s wardrobe that I had previous overlooked or maybe taking a second to focus on the background synthesizer music blasting in the background while the gang hangs out at The Max.
Recently I saw episode 2, season 2, “Zack’s War”, and I bumped into another tidbit that had me LOLing. As a result of an agreement with Mr. Belding, Zach had the duty of recruiting students to join the on-campus army cadet core program. He uses an array of tactics to lure students into joining such as telling Louise (nerd girl) that the guy to girl ratio would be 3:1, and telling Milton (fat kid) that he would have access to more food in the army. The LOL moment came when Zach attempted to recruit Butch, one of Bayside’s jock meatheads, by noting that he would be able to beat-up a massive number of guys in the program. Butch responds by saying “Hey Zack, that sounds choice!”. That. Sounds. Choice. Who says that?? Was that EVER part of any teenage slang vocabulary during the 1990s? SBTB is so choice!!!

To summarize my last few months away from my blog:
- I took Mandarin 1 at UCLA. It felt pretty good to enroll in a proper Chinese class and tap into my Asian roots. I’m going to hold off from enrolling in quarter 2 and try some self-study. If done successfully, I’ll save about $600 and be able to converse with a 4 year-old Taiwanese child.
- I’m coming up on my 3 year mark at work. Time flies when you’re putting out fires in royalty accounting departments around the world.
- My theory that anyone (myself included) will buy anything for $1 was confirmed when I was introduced to Red Box. I live 1 block from a Red Box machine and nothing is more pleasant than picking up a $1 movie on the way home. P.S. - I really liked Up in the Air.
- I started parting my hair again. A tribute to Andrew Lai circa 2001.
- Can the Lakers stop sucking in time for the playoffs??? Can’t wait to watch the World Cup in HD! Arsenal, aagghhhhh. Yes, baseball’s back.
- I came in 2nd in my NCAA pool! I picked Kentucky to take the title.
- She & Him’s ‘Volume Two’ was pleasant. Broken Bell’s album was solid also.

Certain things are totally worth their cost even though cheaper options are available: more refined vodka instead of cheap stuff, flying to Vegas instead of driving, etc. The newest edition to the list is valet parking at the Bob Hope airport in Burbank. As if flying out of Burbank wasn’t easy and painless enough, the valet takes it to a whole new level of comfort. You drop the car off right out front and you’re at the security check in within 2 minutes. Then upon your return, you scan your valet ticket at a kiosk outside your terminal where you pay with your credit card. Once your payment is submitted, the valet is notified that you’re on your way out, and two minutes later when you arrive at pickup, your car is waiting for you! The total amount of time between getting off the plane and getting into your car is 5 minutes. For $20 a day, it might be worth it.

I’m so glad Karen Sharp from KOST 103.5 is back from vacation. Christine Martindale was killing the love song dedications.

It doesn’t feel like I had a lot of time to follow new music this year, but I was able to come up with a list of about 45 songs that I really liked. I whittled it down to 10 favorites. For me, 2009 had plenty of ipod plays for Phoenix, Blind Pilot, YYY, Regina Spektor and Telekinesis. They all found spots on this year’s list.
- Phoenix - 1901
- Blind Pilot - Go On, Say It
- Telekinesis - Foreign Room
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
- Metric - Help I’m Alive
- Regina Spektor - The Calculation
- Jay-Z - Empire State of Mind
- Hockey - Too Fake
- Telekinesis - Coast of Carolina
- Passion Pit - Eyes as Candles

I’m 100% hooked on TV. Over the past 6 months, I’ve watched Scrubs and The Wire from start to finish in their entirety. I now just finished off 5 seasons of Weeds in a few weeks and I instantly started the search for the next TV series to conquer. Currently I’m only watching live airings of Top Chef and The Office. Entourage ended for the season so that freed up some time to dedicate to a new series. I briefly browsed Netflix for streaming TV series and I found out that 30 Rock streams, so that will be next. I should be caught up in about two weeks.
